Agile Richmond Outreach

We have focused our outreach along several venues to spread the word regarding Lean and Agile to enable the community to become even better at what it does. We are not a consulting group, but a not for profit organization to share the experiences of the community and broaden the help we can give each other. As Agile "evangelists" we are willing and ready to help an organization understand with Agile and Lean are and how to successfully bring these powerful change agents unto and organization.

Richmond Corporate Efforts

Agile Richmond Board Members Kelly Snavely and Ray Gombos recently met with Senior Management of several local Richmond companies who are starting down the Agile Path. Among the key discussion points: What are their key obstacles? What do they want to accomplish? How can Agile Richmond help fulfill those goals? The result is helping us to design meetings and sessions to fulfill the needs of our Agile community. We are finding that we need to serve a broad range of needs from beginner (I'm tying to get this started) to experienced (help me introduce advanced concepts). A tall order to fulfill! Let us know if you want to have a conversation.

Richmond PMI Partnership

The general industry is realizing that Agile in of itself doesn't replace good project management. But the role of project manager (in conjunction with coach) is 'different' in Agile. PMI has also recognized this new role of 'Agile' Project Manager. As a result, Agile Richmond has created a strategic partnership with the Central Virginia Area PMI group. Check out our events page. We will be hosting an Agile Project Management workshop in October (PDU's granted)

Education

This is a work in progress, but one that should be very fruitful. Initial meetings have taken place with Deans and Doctors of Information Services at VCU outlining potential speaking/teaching opportunities in the both the graduate and under graduate level. To date, VCU Agile 'teaching' has centered around the Project Management curriculum. With our help, it will broaden into organizational change and emerging technologies (Agile engineering) which are key to sustaining Agile in an organization. Short term, we have been invited to introduce ourselves to the Executive MBA team on October 4. Speaking/teaching opportunities are being evaluated for 2009 and beyond.

The Board at Work: Agile 2008 Conference

Four of the Agile Richmond members were selected to speak, facilitate or present at the Toronto Agile 2008 conference. Lyssa Adkins, Robin Dymond, Ryan Shriver and Kelly Snavely. Check out the Agile 2008 wiki to see our presentations.
